my flattened leaf springs have a bolt thru the middle of them. the bolt ties the axle to the spring. the pictures of the replacements do not show this bolt hole. if i go up to the next size spring the pictures i see on line show the bolt hole. my question is , can i go from a ,what i believe is a 500 lb spring to a 750 lb spring?the trailer states 1000 lbs on the placard.i believe the bolt centers the spring on the axle, i still have u bolts holding it together. thanks for ur replies.

Re: leaf spring replacement

On some of the older trailers i have found they don't make the exact replacement spring anymore. So yes you can go up in size of spring. The difference might be instead of a three leaf you might be going to a four leaf spring etc. you might even have to go to a longer spring. when i redid mine i had to go up in length by 1/2 in. This is also part of the reason you should replace both springs and hard wear at the same time.
