1994 Four Winns Horizon 230 with 5.8 EFI/CobraSX drive.

When cold my engine starts right up but when warm, it takes lots of cranking to start it up. If I hold the throttle wide open it will start sooner. Makes me think its leaking fuel injector(s). Do I pull each spark plug and look for it to be wet? Im assuming each cylinder is served by one injector rather than one injector serving the whole intake manifold.

I'm assuming you have a ford. Yes, it has 8 injectors. If they are leaking, you should smell gas. Also, I dont think it would run very well at all with a leak. Mine had a pin hole in the fuel rail and it wouldn't start at all. Other culprits could be temp sensor, or base timing. Also, could be the vapor separator. The EEC will lean the mixture when the engine is warm. It gets the information from the temp sensor(some have two). When you advance the throttle, the tps signals the EEC and gives it more fuel and richens the mixture making it start quicker. Ive used the automotive sensors and have worked fine. one last thing could be the thermostat. if it is stuck open, cold sea water will not get hot enough as it passes over the temp sensor, the temp sensor will tell the EEC the engine is cold when its really hot and therefore the EEC will deliver a too rich mixture. When you open the throttle, you are leaning in back out. Take a look at your temp guage next time your out, if it doesn't go above 110-120, this could be the case. Good luck.
