I have a 1988 9.9 that leaks a lot of oil from the prop and upper exhaust. I've been told I may need the "lower seal" fixed or something else but I have no idea what that means. I changed the spark plug, cleaned the fuel filter and carb intake. It seems to run ok but is this something major or a minor service? Thanks

i agree with rick, if theres oil in the gearcase (and its not milky.....maybe check and change it anyway) the oil from the prop, and exhaust is a good thing to see, my 85 rude 4.5 drips oil from the exhaust...it doesnt exhaust through the prop.....and it gets messy! id be concerned if i didnt see that unburnt oil dripping, and add more oil.

As long as your g/c oil is okay don't worry about any oil out of the exhaust. It's normal.
