I just spent 293.29 in repairs at a local marina. Had the prop shaft seals replaced along with the o-ring and had them put in new water pump kit. Just put the muffs on and ran the motor. after running for about 3 minutes. I have more lower unit fluid leaking out now than i did before I had the work done. I took prop off its not coming from the shaft seal but its coming from way back in there as far as you can see past the bearing carrier nut any info would be great Brian

Welcome to iboats Brain!

You should call them and explain what is going on. Keep it nice and civil and I am sure the will fix it for you, if it is a good shop.

Thanks plainsman i did call them and left a message to have them call first thing when they open monday i guess i am just worried there going to stick me with another bill . kind of hoping its something they did wrong when they worked on it. Not sure if anything else can cause the leak besides what i had them replace

Re: leaking lower unit fluid from prop area

So many times a person thinks that the oils dribbling from the prop area are from the gear case when in fact it's quite common for unburnt fuels to collect within the exhaust cavities, condense and run out near the prop.

I suspect you have a two stroke motor and this might be the case.

If you had taken the boat in and told them the lower unit is leaking and needs resealing, they followed your orders.

Sometimes if you put your finger in the goo, and place that next to your nose you can determine by smell if it is the oil from the motor or the gears.

Yepblaze The motor is a 4 stroke oil injected. I do not have to mix gas. and it does smell like gear oil. I am amost wondering if they didnt tighten the bearing carrier nut to the right torque because thats where it is leaking way in on the back side its not leaking by the prop shaft seal. It is real milky all i know is something isnt right it was leaking before but not bad I took it in got it back and now its worse. Is there anything else that could cause this besides the seals and water pump kit that i had replaced?

If it's milky and smells like gear lube, wait for the call on Monday. If they don't call you, call them again, messages do get lost. Just rember to remain civil and the should fix it for free if they just did the work.
