Leaky Carbs

1987 inline 6...115hp with WMK carbs.
finally tracked down replacement welch plugs and got these carbs back on the motor and adjusted according to clamscasino's thread on lync and sync.
Motor fired up and ran fine fine, but still a couple'a issues...
1. When I trim up the motor, I have fuel leaking out of the carb throttle chamber. Not a ton of gas, but enough to stink up the place and make a mess. Floats, needles and seats were replaced and adjusted to spec.
Why are these leaking?
2. When I removed the carbs for rebuilding, I noticed that the port for the #1 carb was dry while the #2 and 3 had gas/oil residue. Could this mean that top cylinders aren't getting fuel? Fuel is reaching that carb

They should not leak in the trim position but if tilted they will leak it's just like a glass of water being turned on it's side. Run to carbs dry before tilting the engine all the way up.

don't run these motors dry!!!

unplug your fuel line from the motor while it's idling and when the engine starts to smooth out and sound like it's idling up a little shut it down.........it will still have a little fuel in the bowls but isn't completely dry so you won't damage the cylinders!!!!

I am some where between Classy and Laddies on the dry carb issue. I pull my fuel hose and run at idle until it starts to stumble and sound rough then kill the engine. If you run it longer I dont think there will be any damage since there is a good amout of oil residue coating the inside of the crankcase. If you ever get to look at one that has been torn down you will see this.

Just as Laddies said they will leak when tilted up just to the laws of gravity.
