Leaky fuel line -Studder?

Got my '70 55hp running and sealed up.

I fired it up in a barrel and is starts and seems to run good.
I noticed that when it hit the throttle right on the carb is revs fine.
But If I move the shift lever so i can move the lever the throttle control will move. the idle does increase, but it will shudder and sounds like it missing, until the throttle is at least 1/2 way then it smooths out.

I want to take the flywheel off to check the points, but I'm having a heck of a time trying to remove it.

Also wondering if leaky fuel line would cause this?
I just pushed the fuel line on and didn't have any hose clamps to get them tight.

To remove the flywheel you need a harmonic balancer puller, $14 at Harbor Freight. I would put a hose clamp on your fuel line a see if it fixes your issue. It could be sucking air or something and messing up your fuel delivery.

No harbor freight around here.
I'm going to try autozone to see if they have a large puller.

I have a Harmonic balancer puller, but it's not big enough to reach the holes to bolt it in.
