i saw a riva boat on that brighten your day thread, beauteful boat!

they said riva was using leather seats in the boat.

has any one used leather?
i know cows and pigs stand all day in the rain but would a leather boat seat hold up?
we use vinyl as the standard cause it stands up well and is really durable.
but how would leather do? in a demanding, step on the seat, spill your beer sit on it when yer butt is wet situation?

btw speaking of anamals,

what do you get when you cross fifty female pigs with a fifty male deer?

a hundred-sows-and-bucks (100 thousand bucks)

cheers

well imho, they skin was alive, when it was standing in the weather, replenishing itself. i don't beleive it would last long in a boating environment.

I've never seen leather seats, in a boat, where they are exposed to weather.

I've seen some high end center console boats with UltraLeather seats but for the most part anything that is leather is in the cabin and away from the elements. For boats vinyl is a far better material, but if I were able to afford a boat like a Riva I would probably pop for leather.

there are some new processes out there to chemically impregnate leather and make it washable this stuff also stands up to getting wet and drying. I have a motorcycle seat made out of the stuff. That said, it's super spendy. I doubt you'd be able to justify using it in any kind of marine upholstery work.

My leather boots have stood up well to all kinds of muck.
