Re: LED courtesy lights, rope lights?

I have done this. The wrong way. I used white lights, which was nice for visability. I did not have them covered from the top however. Thus I was unable to see what was beyond the boat. The boat however did get called disco!

If there is a way of shielding the glow from above, they will work great.

My new boat has yellow led lights in certain spots around the boat. Not really happy with them. Not enough light to be able to see. Even have one in my rod locker and I still need a flashlight, but I still get the glare because it is straight in veiw of my eyes.

Those are some nice looking lights Dawg, but a bit out of my price range. I'm looking at inexpensive (bargain, budget, cheap) LED rope lights. The ones in Dawg's links look to have higher LED counts than the ones I'm looking at, so my calculations wouldn't apply for that type of light.

(BTW, I edited my post above to note it's for LED rope lights with 1" LED spacing)

Currently, I am working on a restore and plan on putting some LED strips under the gunwales. Definitely going with red LED's so as to not interfere with night vision and keep the insect population down.

The best place I have seen for price (outside of ebay) is at: http://www.ledshoppe.com/pvc.htm

The PVC LED strips have a density of 5 LED's per inch which would quintuple the Lumens from the above calculations...

Hi. Please don't resurrect old threads. This one ended over a year ago. Either use the search function to find what yoiu need, or start a new thread of your own to ask questions and share info.

Thanks.

Look at this place too:

www.cbconcept.com

I have 4 of the red rope lights in my 18'er and there is plenty of light.
