Led trailer light issues...

Doing a led light upgrade to all the trailer lights...my lights will blink with hazards and turn signal but brakes or running lights shut them completely off. Heard something about maybe needing a module for the lights???? Trucks wiring works fine when towing other non led trailers. Anyone had the same issues?

Usually the first step w/trailer lite issues is to double check the ground connections.

Ground is hooked up and all lights worked with the non led lights in it. And the turn and brake lights are seperate.

Like Cheetah posted above you need a convertor. Not sure how you actually had your previous lights working without one.

The vehicle is a 02 Gmc pu with factoty towing package and four plug hook up and has never had any issues until the leds were installed...still thinking convertor???

An 02 GMC PU with factory towing package comes with the 7 pin connector. What does yours look like?

My o3 Dodge factory install has both.

It has the seven pin connector and I have the adapter plug that converts it to the four for trailers...This whole deal does'nt make sense to me...going to grab tester ,check voltage and ground again and go from there...will post my findings

All grounds. Disassemble, clean and reassemble. Looking ok doesn't see any corrosion between connects.

Then you don't need a convertor.

Ok truck is functioning just fine...but here is what happens with trailer. Hit brakes the marker lights and right tailight come on,running lights are non existing,turn on flashers and all light come on,l-turnleeft markers and left tail blink,right turn all markers and right turn blinks .....what do you guys think???seemed to work before and i replaced the light one at a time instead of gutting them all and trying to piece bck together. sounds like a ground issues to me too foodfisher.Guess I will redo ground and maybe new wiring harness on trailer.

Put a battery jumper cable between your truck and bare metal of your trailer. If that helps, you need to look at the trailer connector ground connection.

Check all wiring closely, might have a signal wire going to ground. Does sound like a ground issue of some sort. Good luck and double check your wiring remember, brown is tail and side markers, white is ground, Green right side stop/turn, yellow left side stop/turn

this is almost definitely a ground issue..... it's nearly always a ground issue and 9 times out of 10 the person asking doesn't believe it.

Ground for sure...with jumper wire hooked up everything is great...thanks for all the help on this....ground will be redone after work tomorrow.

I run a white ground wire to each light.

His issue is with the trailer/truck connection. No need to run seperate ground wires in fact this creates more problems down the road.

I had similar problems with my trailer lights. It ended up being my ground circuit and I just needed to add a ground wire. Instead of going through all the trouble of finding the parts individually, I got a kit universal ground wire kit from Trailerandboat.com Now Im back on the road again!
