Just picked up a super sport with a 78 85hp Johnson. Did a compression check after the motor warmed up and everything checked out fine 110 PSI in each cylinder. The tilt and trim worked no problem, and shifted in and out of gear with no bangs or growls. It has a new floor in it, but it'll have to come out there is no flotation at all, and no gluvit. I'll post pictures when I get a chance. $1200 for it and the trailer, I think I did OK on it.

Now to start the tear down!

Was it the one you posted that you were looking at for $1600 with the 85hp Javelin outboard?

Here are some pictures of the boat and the start of the tear down. After seeing the 14' kingfisher center console, I'm leaning towards making this a center console as well. I want to use it primarily as a fishing boat anyway, and I've always like the idea of a small center console, so we'll see. I'm a long way from making that decision.

That's the one. The motor checked out, the controls were good, and the hull was in good shape. The interior was a disaster, stapled in carpet, and looks like they made all the cuts with a hand saw, and it was held together with self tapping screws. It's coming apart quick. I did see one screw made it through the hull, but I'll weld that, and they used open ended rivets to reconnect the side console to the hull, but again I'll spot weld those holes closed. I can't tell if the plywood is treated or not, but it is of very poor quality, like B\C, so I'm ditching it and will replace it with high grade exterior ply and then coat it with epoxy. I have a lot of work ahead of me, but I see a lot of potential.

I wouldn't say I know what I'm doing, but I have been reading a lot on here. I really appreciate all of you that have provided so much good information. It makes me feel so much more comfortable about tackling this project, I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Lookin' good. What the heck is up with that big bolt through the hull?

it is an old thru hull water inlet for I'm guessing a live well or something. It is full of sealant, and I didn't see the inlet on the outside of the hull when I was under there looking, must be either under the trailer board, or on the inside of it. I'm trying to decide if I want to take it out and weld in a patch or if I want to replace it and have a live well.

Turns out I didn't really look at that thru hull bolt too well, when I flipped the boat I found a transducer hanging off the bottom of the boat. It must have been for an old depth finder. I have the boat off the trailer and turned over. I've started working on hole for the transducer, as well as getting some other nicks dings and scratches filled in, and ground smooth. I'll post some pictures as soon as I get them off my phone. I'm hoping to have some paint on it by the end of next week, if my schedule doesn't go south.

The trailer was pretty bad, it hasn't had any paint on it for a while. Took several passes with a wire wheel to even see metal.

Here it is before I did anything to it

Now here it is with all the rust knocked off, primed and painted. I am going to paint the wheel wells white so that I can see them better when I'm dunking it in the water.

I'll probably build some side bunks for the trailer too, but I'll do that once I have the boat back on the trailer so I can get the angles and the spacing right. I'm thinking I'll build in mounts for the lights so that they are up higher and out of the water.

Got the hull prepared and wiped down and got a coat of primer on it. I'm hoping to have some time in the next week or so to get some paint on it, we'll see. Have to rebuild the bunks and get them on the trailer so I can move the whole think into the garage before the weather turns

Here are a few pic's of the primed hull

I think I'm going white above the water line and black below, with maybe the bow and the transom black. I'm not entirely sure yet.

you look to be moving right along, but remember that if bad weather gets there before you have trlr done, you can lay some 2x4 scraps sideways across the trailer and drop inverted boat onto it to move it into garage. this is how one of my tinnies came home.

Looking really nice so far, BTW!

Keep up the good work! It looks great and you are making quick work of everything. I am super jealous of the way your trailer is looking too.
