So why does a Canadian have to remind a guy from Florida what Memorial Day is all about?

Hi Tim,
if you will take a moment and reread my first post you will see that my statement is to have a "happy and safe weekend" but more importantly Let Us Not Forget what this weekend Holiday here is the USA is about.

Bruce...you are not referring to something that started 200 years ago are ya...? No you do not need to remind me sir.....again....Let Us Not Forget what this weekend Holiday here is the USA is about.

I did not make this day a "holiday" someone else did. This is a Day of Rememberance for All Who Paid The Ultimate Price...!!!!

Thanks to the Canadian for honoring our troops that have served and paid the ultimate price in their unselfish acts to protect our freedom!

Thank you for personalizing this discussion, JRJ.

When a war death hits you personally you don't celebrate it, you give honor and thanks.

Just got done watching a documentary on D-Day. My wife's grandfather was in the 101st. My family is all ANG, with some of the in-laws being USAF regulars - so I get a lot of interaction with current and veteran military.

Lest we ever forget ... Freedom is hardly free.

I was young at the time when my Dad`s good friend came to see him before my Dad`s Friend headed to Vietnam. He told my Dad that this would be the last time they would see each other...my Dads Friend was right...

Benny Ross Guy lost his life Dec. 2nd 1968 in South Vietnam.
He is Still Remembered Today.

For those of you that might not know this...you can go to the Vietnam War Memorial website and look up names of the Good People that Gave All. Alot of times you will find messages from those that served beside them.

Thanks for that, Bruce. That says a lot.

Thanks to IZOD/INDYCAR for honoring what Memorial Day is about. The pre-race ceremonies brought tears to my eyes.

SHAME on NASCAR. While honoring our military is good to do on almost any day, and commercially popular for partying about, ignoring the meaning of Memorial Day is an insult, not only to our war dead but to our serving military as well. Finally, after all the hooraw was over, a Fox announcer (Not a NASCAR official) said, "We acknowledge those of our military who have died in battle." "Acknowledge" ?? Gimme a break. NASCAR IS ON MY BAD GUYS/IDIOTS LIST.

As a veteran who has a son serving in the air force I would like to thank all past and present veterans and active duty military. I heard something today that helps put it into perspective. From 1776 to the present a little over 1.3 million Americans soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen, and coastguard servicemen and women have lost there lives defending our freedom. If they could come back and march in a parade 10 abreast a line passing every 10 seconds, it would take over 15 days for them all to pass in review.
