My 89 Bayliner Ciera's boat Levolor trim tabs popped off a hose at the top of the cylinder. It was in the water when I noticed it. Can I just slip the hose back on, secure with a couple of hose clamps and somehow purge the system? Is there a pressure relief screw at the bottom of the cylinder? I'm afraid water might have gotten in there.

I noticed an oil sheen in the water and tracked down the problem.

Pretty much do what you're thinking. I trust the boat is out of the water now. At least compress the ram as far as possible before putting the hose back on, a little suction from a shop vac at the connection to pull some of the water out would help, or if the top of the ram is easy to undo from your boat, flip it down and let it drain.

Turned out to be an easy fix. I got all stainless hose clamps from Levelor. They said not to worry about water in cylinder and they were right. They said if it didn't hold I would simply replace the hose. Unfortunately that involves routing through transom.
