what a mess ...she has come a long way since then...new floor,carpet,seats,and soon motor...i have seen alot on this site over the years and it has given me the ambition to do my own...some of the projects on this site are unbelievable to say the least...keep up the good work all...cheers

WOW first Libby I have seen being redone. I have an '86 and have had to replace 85% of both stringers and the transom and both motor mounts. Hve you had to do any of this to yours? If so, do you have any other pics? I have posted before on the site but did not get any support.

Hello,

I too have a Liberator 211, and am extreamly excited to see someone talking about Liberators... I have posted before as well and didn't find too many people talking about them.

I posted a couple other threads with pictures right after I bought the boat, which was about a month ago.

I am also thinking about replacing my deck, so any pictures you have would be greatly appriciated.

I am located in New England, not sure where you guys are....

nice to c some liberator fans out there ...i was not a fan of carpet in thr engine compartment...it holds water and if u spill oil on it it makes a mess so the photo is the finished product...its an epoxy paint that will b easy to clean though i have concerns about the noise with out the carpet to dampen it...i rebuilt the back seat with marine grade plywood and had to cut out two sections of floor about one foot wide and two feet long on each side of the fuel tank cover also replaced the fuel tank cover and recarpeted from the back seat up...it lookes like your thru hull exhaust is lower in the water yhan mine...mine goes straight out of the manifolds straight out the back w no elbows???keep in touch i am from western pa and would like to c some photos of the exterior of your libby...later ps whatever u do try not to put too much indoor outdoor carpet glue under the carpet like i did it bled up thru in a spot and i was super bummed

i hace to carpet the cuddy yet but so far so good...the stringers and engine mounts are in good shape...i drilled some test holes through out ...it must have been garage kept...now for the motor...it is gonna b a gr8 winter project...

Numpux2020,

I am also not a fan of the carpeting in the engine compartment. Interesting comment about it being louder with the carpet removed. I think I am going to do something very similar to what you did. I have removed my seat, and am currently probing around to see how much / what parts of the deck are rotted. I will post some better interior shots soon. Regarding the thruhull exhaust... The previous owner did say that he had it lowered about 6 inches when he repowered it. The motor is a 97 350 with an alpha drive, so I am glad it's a newer motor. I was also worried that the thruhull would be too loud, but I think having it below the water while the boat is off plane makes it sound very nice. Then once you are on plane it's loud. I will keep your comment about the amount of glue in mind. When you replaced the deck peices did you put fiberglass on them? Before / after installing / before installing the carpet? I am thinking of cutting out the soft spots putting newly epoxy / coated peices back in place, and then laying 2 layers of 1708 on the entire deck to just to strengthen it up. Thoughts? Since I just bought the boat so recently I have only had it in the water twice. I can't wait for next year. What type of motor do you have? What are you going to be working on with it this winter?

Man this is great. I have am completely restoring my Libby> I would love to see some pics of your new back seat. I am building one as well. I have a million pics and am located in West Virginia not far from PA. I also drilled my stringers, motor mounts and transom. The transom was easy because the whole bottom was rotted. The motor mounts and stringer I drilled and got good wood. But noticed that the tops of mount were good but bottom was soaking wet. The very back of stringers were they contacted transom were bad. But when I drilled the rest it seemed good untl I looked closer. several spots where black especialy were they contacted bulkheads. Also the bottoms of the stringers were floating and held water. They were rotted or rotting. So I cut scarf joints about two feet long and replaced about 12-14 feet of each stringer. The boats were well built but had some problems. No drains at the base of the stringer are one. The drain hole was about half way up the stringer, no good!!!And the backs of the stringers in the bilidge were not even glassed. I also am rebuilding the '97 crate 350 that was in it. It has a flat cam not roller and had torquer heads. I also have bought Perfection paint.

The stringers have very thin mat from the bil bulkhead forward. But the section of the stringers that are in the engine area is mat only but is about 1/4" thick or maybe a little less. I am wondering if I can get away with using one layer of mat and roving for tabbing then one of mat and one of woven roving then one of mat and a mat cap. But in the stringer area I would use two layers of woven roving. Also tab the transome with two layers of mat and woven. One 6" wide and one 10" wide. Then cover it all with mat.

I am fortunate as I belive my stringers and motor mounts are sound. Just a few soft spots under the bench and in beside the motor.

How did it fit. I haven't rebuilt mine yet (winter project), but was going to use that and my existing bench to build the new one. I also thought about fiberglassing the area under the seat, so that If I put a wet anchor rope or something in there, it won't attack the wood like the previous owners / current bench I have now did. Basically the bench I have now is fine, except for some rot at the very bottom where it contacted the deck.

i havent put my completed seat in yet...have to put the motor in first though i am nervous about the fit the original was 72" outside to outside and i ended uo 72 1/4" ...should b ok though but i am a worry wort...i too am not having carpet under the seat...whenever someone jumps in wet they plop down on the back seat and the water is downhill from there...now it will go down the seat on the epoxy floor and into the bilge...upon further thoughts i need to design drain holes on the back panel at floor level to let the water travel rearward...its always something but i love it

What model are you looking for? I live in CT as well.

Numpux2020 - worse comes to worse a little sanding and it should fit. I think that makes a lot of sense not having carpet under the seat. I think I will do the same.
