Re: Live video feed of a watering hole in africa
Hi,
Must confess I also thought it was a pre-recording. Living in South Africa I was sceptical as water holes are always busy, not necessarily with the big stuff but there are always birds etc. So tonight I monitored the picture and must confess that it got dark in the video feed just like it did at home. I thinks it's real.
My hassle is that I am on a 64k dial up so nothing is real time.
Welcome to my neighbourhood and enjoy. For information;
The "gazell" you guys see is probably the Impala often confused with the national antelope the "Springbok" which does not naturally occur in the area.
The duck was probably and Egyptian Goose, they are very common.
In that area if it's a big monkey then it is a Baboon. We have Blue Vervet Monkeys and the Chacma Baboon in that area.
As a matter of interest, we don't have Water Buffalo, what you saw was "the" Buffalo. This is one of the famed "Big Five". The Big Five gain their notoriety not from their size but their danger to hunt. They are the Elephant, the Black Rhino (not the white who is the more common), the Leopard, Lion and finally the Buffalo. Both Buffalo and Lion have been know to take a dozen plus 458's in the chest and still come a charging. They now use "monlithics" which are solid brass slugs to penetrate that wall of muscle in the chest as well as for frontal head shots with the Elephant.
Enjoy
Cheers
Andrew
