I have a 3-year old car with Lo-Jack and I just received a 2nd notice that I have yet to have the Lo-Jack system inspected ($100.00) and that it should be inspected every 2 years. The notice stated that it is "designed to withstand climate extremes and daily wear and tear".

I have worked in industrial electronics for 30++ years and don't understand why a non-mechanical electronic system would require periodic service. If you have any knowledge on what it is about this system requires service, I would be grateful for the information.

Many thanks,
Sincerely,
Nick

I would contact whoever sent you the notice and ask them.
I would think a software update would not need an inspection, just a manufacture date.

Lo-Jack wants your money. IMHO They recommend, not require.

Maybe it's a service/inspection to ensure that any external connections have not corroded or deteriorated.

Anything for a buck, comes to mind. You do have car insurance right?

Re: Lo-Jack maintaince

Thanks all,
I sent a similar question to Lo-Jack and they were kind enough to respond as posted below:

Thank you for contacting LoJack. I'd be glad to assist. We recommend that all customers have their LoJack units inspected every 2-3 years. Inspections are completely optional but are highly recommended. We will dispatch a certified technician to either your home, work address or an address that works best for both you and the technician as we do not have one central location to have an inspection performed. The most common reasons for an inspection include car accidents, major electrical/battery problems, or if there had been major work done to the vehicle that may have caused damage to the LoJack unit. Since we are unable to monitor the day to day use of our consumers vehicles we recommend this inspection to ensure that the LoJack units have not been damaged. The inspections cost is $99 and is an optional service entirely up to the discretion of the customer. If interested please call to set up your appointment. Our Customer Service Department is available Monday-Friday 8:00am-12midnight, Saturday 8:00am-9:00pm and Sunday 10:00am-7:00pm eastern time. Our contact number is 1-800-456-5225. I hope this information has been helpful. Thank you for for your business with LoJack. Have a great day!
