Re: Loa

Seems to me like someone may need to be more involved with the property owners association and make some friends ;) For them to "just" notice that you are two inches over length is unlikely. Someone who has felt slighted in some way has gotten down there and measured your dingy (that doesn't sound quite right  ) and made an issue over it. I try not to make an issue over small things so that small things are not made an issue involving me. That's called micro-managing and it really causes more stress than anything else. I guess what I'm saying is there seems to be more here that we are being told for them to make an issue over 2 inches. I guess you could just have a bunch of turds running things in your neighborhood, but....even with that... be nice, make friends, be an asset to the association and you may avoid this type of petty headache causing stress in the future. For now, it sounds like you need to dry dock your dingy at home. Sorry you are having these kinds of troubles.

You are going about this the wrong way. The current rules say 12 feet LOA, and you exceed that. Period. As someone mentioned above, LOA is how big of a truck will it take to fit your boat in and close the door. It isn't a hard measurement, does the door close or doesn't it? Your boat won't fit into a 12 foot truck.

Instead, you need to figure out why it is 12 feet, and if that reason isn't valid, try to get it moved to 13 feet (or higher). I'd check for possible reasons for that number, do they have a dock that allows 24 feet of boat to tie up, so automatically cut that in half to allow 2 - 12 foot boats? Or is the number not tied to dock size, in which case you might have a valid case to get the rule changed? Also, you might not be a popular guy with your neighbors, but look for other dingy's with the engine tilted up. That might put them past the 12ft rule also. (if 90% of the dingy's violate the 12 foot with the motor up, they may have no issue with adding a foot to it.) LOA includes anything on the boat that sticks out over the front or rear, not just the hull.
