location of the speedo intake on Yamaha VF 250 LA SHO outboard.

Hi there
My speedometer on my xpress has stopped working. Can some one please tell me where the intake for the speedo is located on a VF 250 LA Yamaha SHO outboard. I have looked and no joy.

i beleive there is a small hole towards the front of the lower unit just under the cavitaion plate

For some reason I'm thinking the SHO is different due to the low water intake but check the leading edge of the gear housing as was mentioned.

leading edge is the very front edge,
it is the 1st thing on motor to hit a stump or other obstruction in water so it will get plugged up

Just looked at one of the lowers in the shop and its actually on the very point of the gearhousing. Not up on the leading edge like the others.

thanks,...now "I" know as well lol. i was curious to why my speedometer doesn't work. so while i had the lower unit off, i used a hand operated vacuum pump that i had hooked up to the tubing inside the casing and extracted 2 oz. of thick gel like water. not sure if this has cured the no speedometer issue yet. gonna have to put it in the water to test.



the reason why i used the pump, is water was slowiy dripping from the pick up tube like snail slime
