im about to trlr a thousand miles with an i/o....

what happened (damage wise) to your bote?

I had to tow my new boat about 2000 miles from the dealer when I bought it.
He just said to tilt it up about where it balances. No problems .

Ah..that's a different kettle of fish. With an I/O the only thing holding your outdrive off the pavement is the hydraulics. If they fail (and it happens occasionally) you're going to be making some big time sparks and eating expensive aluminum.

For an I/O I'd use a transom saver but only just loosely so if the unit starts to fall it will be held in place off the road.

You might also look into the rubber wedges that can be used on outboard trim/tilm rams to relieve pressure. There is probably someone who makes them for I/Os.
