I'm going to look at a 1991 Tracker Bass Pro 16. I'm worried that the free board would not be enough for fishing trout in the Easter Sierra lakes (June Lake Loop). I don't know if bass boats are any good for this. It has a 1991 50hp Johnson on it. $2500 obo. What do you guys think?

I would not feel safe with that boat in anything but pure glass water. Something like this would be a better fit.

WOW! That Lund is beautiful. That's exactly what I'm looking for but don't know if my car will haul it or if I can afford it. Right nowI'm fishing out of 14' Gregor which is great for the Sierra lakes. I would just like something a little more comfortable. I'm not getting any younger:D

I was going to go over to Bass Pro and look at their V-series boats. They would fit the bill but I don't know if I want to spend the money on a new boat.

The 50 should push it good and if this Lake isnt like the ocean youll be fine. Seems like a decent deal if its nice. No matter what size boat weather/wind should always be cautioned.

Just looked at your boat. If that works you will love the tracker.

Don't know the area so I also don't know the average wheather conditions and winds.

If there is mostly a steady wind with lots of chop on the water I think I'd be looking more for a V hull boat such as a Lund Rebel or Alumacraft Classic or Tracker V in the 16' class.

I'm starting to think about buying a new Tracker Super Guide V-16 SC. Don't know which motor. 25hp $13,420, 30hp$14,020, 40hp $14,620. All have power trim. I'm not looking for a speeed boat. Mostly trolling for trout. If it will run on plane, that's enough for me. Boat weighs 875# empty. Lot of the lakes I fish have a 10mph speed limit. Rated for 50hp max.

I'm out in Lake Erie with my 17' springbok with low gunnels. It handles the rolling waves just fine. Heavy chop though and i have to come in.

If you want fuel economy, get the aluminum. if you want stability in heavy weather, get a glass.

For tin boats no one makes a better one. Although much more than OP needs ~~~ the Lund Baron is the best tin boat made. If stuck on a tracker ~~ you may find the 25 underpowered and not enough difference in the 30 to justify the extra cost. If you have to have a tracker, get the 40. I think you can find a better used boat for much less.

Take your time. Look on Boat Trader and at dealers too. Take your time. Sylvan and StarCraft and others are good boats. I have had a few tin boats from 14' - 22'. Take your time,,, there are a lot of deals out there if you are patient you will find one. Tin boats are great on mostly calm water. Even the 22' Sylvan Offshore was not great in rough water. Tin sets on top of the water and the rough stuff makes control tuff. The best of tinnys is the Lund Baron but only built in longer than you want besides being very expensive. No one, not even dealers, want to hold on to boats they are not going to use at this time of year ~~~ negotiate.

This is good advice. You are really looking at an entire package. Boat, Motor, Trailer. It all has to be good and there are good ones out there.
