Looking at Saturn 11'

I am looking into getting a Saturn 11' inflatable boat.

Is it something that will last? i will be deflating after every trip and storing in bag, i anticipate using it 30 to 40 days a year in ponds, small lakes, and slow rivers maybe.

besides womdeing if it will last do i need to get an anchor, or anything else to be legal in NYS? I understand i have to register it with DMV but is that the only requirement?

I am thinking of getting a 55 lbs thrust trolling motor, would that likely be enough power?

Lastly as a first time boat owner would i need anything else besides the PFD? Oh and i saw on here someone said once you register a SIB with a motor you have to put it in at a launch?

I believe you can launch you boat from anywhere you want. Remember the boat and floors will weight about 150 total. So you might want to get your vehicle as close to the water as possible. Have a good pump with you and a patch kit. Anchor is preference. I go in salt water bays and open water so anchor is important for me so i stay where i want to be and not have the tide and chop (waves) put me in a location i do not want. As for trolling motor: i purchased a riptide kota 50 from amazon and tried it in a bay. It only had enough power to keep me in the same spot. I guess lots of wind and tide was high but overall had experience. If its a pond you should be fine. I never been in a river so i do not know. Maybe we can meet up for a fishing trip in NYS in a good river. (Might have to use my 6hp due to power restrictions in NYS RIVERS)

last year was up my chippewa bay and caught a 42 inch muskie on 10lbs test time, we had a bass net which was to small. The boat owner was brave enough to grab the muskie out of the water with his hands!

Where abouts in NY are you?

Better go straight for a Saturn 12" footer, it's slight larger, wider, roomier, with slight more diam tubes, more seaworthy and will slide/plane faster with a smaller engine than the 11 footer. Price difference should be + $ 100 more. Saturn are good quality made for the money. A that pace use should last a life time in good cond assuming you take well care of that sib.

They also have some prior year stock they are selling.

Reach out to the guys on this forum who are the New Yorkers. They usually meet in Jamaica Bay. They can help you a lot and are local to you in the sense that they are in New York also

We are actually in NYC, We are looking to test new waters though. If you got rivers with big fish we will come for the day . Ronaldj, we have not forgotten about you and plan to catch up on your waters this coming season

It just dawned on me that you could run dual trolling motors.
That would also keep your cost down and allow your boat to move about 7 or 8 knots or so in a lake.
A lot of people have gone all electric.

im going to make it to Sandy hook one weekend this summer.
Anything special I need to have.
Down here in Delmarva you an use your licsense in all 3 areas for saltwater.
However anybody doing any crabbing or Rockfish fishing has to have all the stamps for the Bay
I would love to have my boat ready for the Annapolis Sailboat Show. I would like to just cruise in with all of the sailboat tenders and get some ideas.
Worse case I will drive to the show and post a bunch of pictures.The show is the end of April.

Annapolis Md is the heart of Sailboat Country
They even have Sailboat kits for Sibs

My goal is to make it to your neck of the woods this summer definitely. Let me know when the boat show is maybe we can crash the party with about 5-6 inflatables. As for crabbing or rock fishing, I never done that. Anyway let me know ahead of time so me and Sinistre can start requesting days off.

OH ok, I am finally some what ready. plugged up the lu leak i had, Plugged up the 3 holes i had from the skeg protector with jb weld. I need to get this new 15 into the water to see if there is any other repair necessary. First trip i will bring both outboards incase my new 15 will give grief i still have my trusty 6 hp

You are so ahead of me with maintenance and repairs! I did get a chance to help my brother in law set up HIS new mercury quicksilver. .. ie my old boat. He was very happy to become part of the Navy, lol. He still has to find an ob... but he is almost ready. Me.... 'nother story altogether.

Oooopppssss!!!! Yes, sorry. What I meant to say was I have a 12' Saturn and I like it so far. Have only had it for the tail end of one season. The boat itself seems good. Build is comparable to my old Mercury Quicksilver which saw a lot of use and held up well. I do see that the paint on the transom plate is already flaking off. And I "broke" the grab line (actually the know came undone. Not great but not the worst thing in the world. Everything else seems to be holding up fair. I assume you are getting the air floor 11'er if so and you are considering upgrading to the aluminum floor... give it some thought... it is very weighty! Lol. My AL floor on the 12'er is over 100# or so. takes the light weight out of the equation. The good thing is you then have options. As for ride quality it is very smooth as compared to my (former) Quicksilver. It cuts through the water in such a way as to not seem as fast. It is deceptive in that it wasn't significantly slower (maybe 1 0r 2 mph) but it seemed much more so due to the ride. Like a luxury car vs a go kart. Lol. Another thing to watch out for is balance point. I'm still working out mine but she goes nose high and holds that attitude much longer than the Merc did. I never got a chance to trim out the engine so i am hoping (expecting) that will do a lot to remedy that situation.


Other than that it is a nice boat all around

Don't worry about hijacking my thread lol, I have done it many of times on other forums so no worries from me, not to mention sometimes when things get off track that bring up new interesting ideas or questions.

The only real issue I am seeing with the 11' as well is the weight. The air floor one weight about 100 lbs and I think that is the most I would want one to weigh but obviously the lighter the better, I just don't want to break the bank and prefer something rated for 4 people so I know it can comfortably handle 3.

We're it not for the capacity concerns I'd have suggested the Mercury quicksilver. In its air floor trim it weighs under 100 all in. But it's tight for 3... just my observation. From my research, the best all around weight to capacity winner is the bombard aero tec 380 but they are close to $5 K here! The 11th Saturn air floor is probably your best bet otherwise.

I have the 13ft SD 385 made by Saturn. Great little boat - I shouldn't say little though - definitely something to consider for the space you are looking for!

Very nice!!!! I love the bimini. I have a grey one... wish I had gotten the red!!. Looks quite smart all together. Might I ask the brand, purchase place, and price?
