One of the problems with the pre 69 V4s(not counting the 100 hp) is the very limited choices you have for props. When those engines were current, OMC only made 5 props for them. Odds are you are going to need either the 10 X 9 1/4, or the 9 1/2 X 10. Those V4s used smaller Diameter Props than your 40 HP

So I have cable based steering, should I look for a 1969 motor then? I’m trying to maintain the vintage look does anyone have any ideas? I want vintage style and decent performance do I change manufactures?

Explain what you mean by----" cable based steering "-----And why the reference to a 69 model with respect to steering ?

I did make reference in an Earlier Post, that OMC V4s went thru a major Revision/Modernization in 69.

To the OP...
On the 69 motors, there were adapters that would permit the Clothesline(Aviation Cable) type steering to be used, though for higher HP its use was discouraged, in favor of the more robust Mechanical system we currently know and love
