scot,

I think your motor is much larger than 5.5 hp.

This is my 1969 25 hp. Johnson. The motor and hood are similar to yours and the motor weight is 78 lbs.

Your right River-runner, a 1960 5.5hp doesn't look anything like the motor scotrob1 posted. I think I remember seeing this motor before and it seems to me scotrob1 pulled the model number off the block and it said it was a 1960 5.5 hp.

Either way, I think you have a "Frankenmotor" on your hands. The tiller handle, carrying handle section and lower unit could from 1960, but the cowl definitely looks like a 60's-70's +20hp Johnson. So I assume that someone put the wrong cowl on your motor. Of course, you know that.

I also think (but don't know) that the cowl from the 1960 sat on top of a bottom bowl-like piece, which does not appear to be on your motor so you would have to get that part too. Unless you plan to restore the motor I'd just give the cowl you have a good sanding and re-paint it. That shape looks better than the original to me. Get some generic decals off eBay, spray the lower unit white and you will have a nice looking motor.

I should also mention that you can not solicit, sell, offer to give away, or anything else like that on this board. The MOD's are pretty stick about it. I'd check out your local bargain papers, craigslist, or eBay for the items you want.

The engine in the picture looks to be a late sixties.

Talk to the folks at www.twincityoutboard.com

Share the pic. with them, they can match it up.
