I am looking at maybe trading for a 2010 ETEC 25 that the guy hit something on the lower right at the part where it bolts up to mid section , he says it runs great but leaks oil where it was hit,,, what do you think its worth ,,, ive read some bad reviews on them with cooling issues and emm's going bad and bad wiring. trying to be realistic here at cost to fix and Evinrude has already discontinued alot of parts for it.

Have you looked at the weight of one of these motors compared to say a 1972 model 25 HP motor ?-----I believe in the order of 90 / 100 LBS heavier for the 2010 model.

its shows about 146 lbs for the ETEC 25 and 94 lbs for the 72 evinrude 25 hp so around 50 lbs difference , parts is my main concern since evinrude is not making any parts, brp pn;y has some maintence parts, water pumps, coils, injectors are a issue not many around, my main concern is lower unit parts.

Facts for you.-----Many new 2 stroke outboards are in fact heavier than they were in the past.

i know most of the newer ones are heavier that the older models, talked to a johnson rep a few years ago, per horsepower the 1972 was the highest and best one built. i am just wanting other opinions from several people that work on these motors and know the issues they have, i have read good and bad reviews on it.

That 22 cubic inch block was built from about 1957 to 1976.-------In 1969 they bumped it up from 18/ 20 HP to 25 HP.----They offered it as 20 and 25 HP up to 1976 model years.----Just a great lightweight motor.

Thats basically what the rep talked about, i just put a 69 18hp powerhead on the 72 johnson 25 chassis and runs great, and im picking up a 73 powerhead to rebuild for it thats a 25 hp , i used this motor for four years hard river use , i went thru the pieces of the rods and found the cause of the rod bearing failure, looks like at some point in its life it was ran on very little oil or maybe straight gasoline. looking with a magnafying glass the metal looks dried out and pitted on the sides of the rods , but doesnt matter now its getting a new build with a different powerhead .
