The serial number is 7518-15805. Based on the Evinrude site it is a 1955. It belonged to my Great Grandpa. My dad gave it to me. Dad says his Grandpa always took it off of the boat and stored it in the garage when they weren't using the boat. It hasn't been used in about 30 years. It is in excellent, almost like new condition. We also have the gas can that it came with. I am wondering what a guestimate is of it's worth. Right now my husband is planning to use it with our little boat on our pond but I am wondering if I should insure the motor. I don't plan to sell (I don't think) but am curious what it's worth. Our zip code is 53066 if that helps at all. The motor has been stored in my basement for 9 years. I was in my parent's basement as long as I can remember before that. Maybe it's been longer than 30 years since it's been run. The only thing my husband has done so far is drain the lower unit. He said it looked brand new. This is the first time the motor has been opened up sonce my Great Grandpa opened it how many decades ago. photo 3.jpgphoto 1.jpgphoto 2.jpgphoto 4.jpgphoto 5.jpg

I wouldn't worry about insuring it. That's a good little motor and will probably last for many years and is in really nice shape. As far as value, however, it is not worth as much as you would think. OMC sold a lot of those motors and like almost all of the '50s OMC motors, they were built to last a lifetime. So, there are a lot of them still around and since they're not rare, they aren't worth a lot. I would say even in the condition your motor is in, it would be hard to get more than $750 for it, and you'd probably get far less unless you're willing to wait a long time. As much as a new outboard costs these days and as good of a motor as you have, it's really WORTH more than that to me. But you wouldn't get much for it.
I for one enjoyed the pics and hope you enjoy the motor for many years to come. BTW, the coils on your motor, if original, are likely cracked and unreliable at best. The first thing I would do is pull the flywheel with the proper tool and replace the ignition coils. There are instructions for doing all that needs to be done to it in the "top secret" thread at the top of this forum. A water pump impeller, new alcohol resistant fuel lines, and a carb rebuild with new plastic float are typical requirements for a long unused motor. I'd also replace the crankshaft carbon seal when you pull the powerhead to drop the lower unit. Very easy and cheap to do.
Good luck,
JBJ

Re: Looking for value on 1955 Evinrude Aquasonic Fleetwin 7.5

I just came across an evinrude 1955 fleetwin 7.5. Trying to get her up and running. This is my first outboard and first post but I did some research and took her apart and inspected as much as I can and I think the coils need to be replaced but I can't get the fly wheel off. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. I'm on a mission to get this baby working!

cmcastle, It's not proper to hi-jack a thread. Read the rules at the top of the forum and start you own. Thank you.

I bought one a couple of years ago for $150. They are nice motors, I love it.
