Segments? We already have phantom cautions. I guess now we'll award points...... :)

An Autoweek article on the new points and race segments. http://autoweek.com/article/nascar/...r&utm_content=body&utm_campaign=awracingdaily

I think a lot of questions need to answered. No mention of segment lengths and I see a change in race strategy at plate tracks. I guess laying back to avoid early trouble at Daytona and Talladega is a thing of the past. What happens when a race has 7-8 cautions and they mess up the segments - when are points awarded?

When the segment caution flag comes out and the cars are circulating until TV commercials are over, do those laps count. Pit stop strategy is probably over as well as green flag stops.

No more Chase - Yippee! It's now the playoffs - Boo!

Darryl and Jeff can explain it to us at Daytona - If they can.

Is it just me or do the driver's enthusiasm for the new rules seem a little forced. I watched interviews last night and while everyone seemed on board with the new " Heat Racing " style, it also seemed to me that the drivers were making a case for NASCAR changing the rules that didn't really feel genuine. I don't know maybe the whole series is in limbo to me.:noidea:

The new format reminds me of the IROC series from the 80's and 90's. Just with different cars. I really wasn't a big fan of that style racing. If I want to watch " Heat Racing " I can go to a dirt track and watch bomber car racing.

Iv'e got an idea how about someone in NASCAR reopen North Wilkesboro and Rockingham. Both short tracks like Bristol and regular old bumpin racing.

I am a casual fan I will watch parts of a race rather than watching golf on TV during the late winter. I miss that nascar took all the emotion away from the drivers, heck two drivers argue and they get sent to a meeting with nascar officials.

The best part of nascar used to be the fights in the pits,...

Now it's just a corporate Mary go round,...I lost any desire to watch years ago,..

Maybe I'm just getting old, But I'd rather watch golf on a Sunday, Seems like more action and excitement in golf,....

Jimmy Spenser threw a haymaker, but I don't think it knocked any sense into Kurt Busch.

Gordo got Kenseth and Jeff Burton. Remember Robby Gordon vs Smoke in the garage at Sonoma (or WG, can't remember). Or Harvick/Biffle in the Busch series (Harvick jumped over Biffs car and grabbed him around the neck). Or Harvick/Edwards in the garage (Harvick slammed Carl onto the hood of his car, Carl left Kevin alone after that one). Now if you mis-pronounce their name you get called to the hauler

Smoke was my favorite driver because he got into it. When the helmet would fly was great.
