Loose Boat !!!

I have an 02 Mercury 5.7 with bravo 1 outdrive. Had engine out to replace back part of engine that has the splines the outdrive connects to. Only 92 hours on boat. Now when you are going at higher speeds the rear of the boat starts moving allmost out of control. What could this be? The power steering fluid is low could that cause it? Thanks...

Sure it could.....
You need to grab the drive (with the engine off of course) & seee how much side to side play there is......​

Thanks, I grabbed the drive and allthough I can move it both directions it feels fairly tight...

Maybe by drive I am not doing what your saying. You talking about the lower unit right? If so I don't feel slack when moving it but I can move it the full travel of the lower unit. Sorry...

With the boat on the trailer,......
Have somebody Hold the steering Wheel while you try, Reasonably Forcefully, to move the Whole Outdrive from port to starboard.......

Then you Hold the Outdrive while the Steering Wheel is tried, port to starboard.....

There should be Little or No play from either end..........

And,........ Fill the P/S reservoir.......

If you Do find Play,......

You'll have to get your Face right down into the back of the Bilge,+ See whats Loose.........
