I have the basic brass screw-in hull plug. I have tried several plugs and they all are now fitting loosely; I can now hand-screw them in all the way where I used to use a wrench to get them tight at the point where just the square end was outside the hole. Other than replacing the whole hole assembly with a new one--I'd rather not beat up my 22 year old transom--is there a trick for tightening?
I put some pipe dope on the plug (the kind out of the tube) but it didn't work. I'll try plumbers tape next.
thanks
