Re: Lost a fiberglass boat got another tinnie

Hey Don , good progress on the the paint. Give Zac a hi 5 from me on the green belt.:)

He worked hard for that belt. It wasn't easy either, the Karate isn't too hard for him it's the social aspects that he stumbles on. He's getting better, I pray every day.

I wouldn't worry about their weight. I was a skinny scrawny kid. My senior year in high school I wrestled 148, so I was a bit bigger than BD. Weighed 145 when I went into the Air Force. 185 when I got out of basics. And 205 after tech school. When I got out and went back to the farm, I lost down to 165. 20 years later I was only 185. After my Dad and eldest brother died, I sold the cattle and haying equipment, and in less than a year I was over 200 again. Now 20+ years later I hit 235 (down to 230 now). So Their weight could very easily be tied to their activity just like mine was.

Another wrestler and Air Force veteran. That's pretty cool. Yea he's a really active kid, he gets bored with TV real quick. I think it's going to be a series of summer boat projects for the two of us. Build up some working with hands skills. I figure one project done for fishing and one in process.

Congrats on a good day in the bag! ;)

Anybody throws out a 60's pickup you don't have room for, post up :D It'd be the 1st annual iboats hoarder's gumball rally race....
That's one in a row!:D
Don't get me started hoarding trucks too. I've owned a 68' bumpside 4x4 and a 54' F250. Miss 'em both.

Yep we been working on the boat. I'll post pics in a minute.

The inside looks really good. nice and flat and the color is starting to grow on me. I wanted more green than blue but it came out Robin's egg blue.

More inside;

I'm super happy with the inside. Flat is easier to roll on than gloss. It runs less.

Now put the Mahogany seats in and pop, a little contrast. I'm liking it.

I think it looks sharp.

I need to add the registration numbers on it. Clean up some paint on the inside rub-rail. I guess that's it, we are done. Oh wait the Johnson 5.5, yep I'm pulling that out of the basement today. Right after we test the Scamp for leaks. Might as well fish too, as long as we are on the lake. I've got a 36lb Minn-Kota and two batteries, pushes the Scamp along nicely.

I'm happy with her. I can't believe it came out so good. For a 12' boat it was a lot of work. I learned a lot though, paint epoxy, varnish, and Gluvit. We'll fix the motor and then it's on to the Offshore. Next summer we'll do a 14' Falcon, Dart or Holiday. I'll start looking for a 35-40 horse Johnny-Rude over the winter. Maybe a Merc. I love the looks of them old 60's Mercury's.

Good weekend to you all. I hope your projects are going good.

Boat looks great. You two did a really good job on it. I know it can be harder keeping a kid like that on task than doing it yourself. But the two of you have a great boat out of it. Excuse me, Zac has a great Sea Scamp out of it. Won't a 35 or 40 hp engine be sort of big for that boat? I only have a 40 on my 16 footer and it's sort of heavy in back. Forget if it was last weekend or the one before, but I saw a 12 ft with 2 adults and 3 kids, oldest maybe 10 wide open about 300 feet from shore with the bow sitting up at at least a 45 degree angle. Well good luck seeing how water tight it is. Hope ya catch a lot of fish.

35-40 hp is for our next future project. A 14 footer. The Sea Scamp gets a 5-1/2 Johnson circa 1955.

Ok, that sounds better to me. I know I'm not very adventuresome, but that seemed way too big. One jet boat site I go to is razzing me cause I don't want to take my river jet (my starcraft) over a 3 ft waterfall.
