Re: Low compression

When I had a low comp. issue on the back 2 cyl. of my 3.0LX after pulling the head I ran a precision straight edge over the mating surface of the block to ensure there were no small peaks or vallies luckily enough I just used a light scuffing with a diamond pad to the surface to ensure a good seal when I recieved my head back from my cousins race machine shop. I do sugest while your head or heads are out for rebuild you study up and research the reassembly proceedure and the processes involved because as the Don said "this is'nt a paint by #'s process". If you take your time and keep all your ducks in a row (manual handy) along with reposting questions everything will work out ok . GOOD LUCK!. Remeber take your time and study.

Re: Low compression

One thing you may want to check is your timing mark on the Harm. Balancer. Crank the engine around to #1 tdc, watch the #1 piston, make sure your timing marks line up right. Leave it in that position for the reinstall of the distributor.

Re: Low compression

Cooter i'm just curious, now that you have the heads off do the cumbustion chambers on 1 & 2 look different than the rest, do the valves all appear closed and do some look sunkin in more than others? now flip the head over and take off all the rockers if you haven't already done it, lay a straight edge across the valves, lay it directly across all the valve tips, are they pretty much even in height? How did the pushrods look, lay them on a flat surface and roll them to see if any are bent. How do the lifters look are the bottoms of them especially on 1 @ 2 concaved or nice and flat, you lay another lifter sideways across the bottom of the one your checking. Finally just leave the valve springs and such together the machine shop will do all that R&R cause they're going to charge you for it anyhow.
