Hi everyone,

I have a 1989 Starcraft with a 3.0 Mercury I/O. When i bought the boat last fall it ran awesome when on plane, it did have an issue at idle so I updated the ignition to electronic sprayed the carb down real good. Got it back out on the lake and it seemed to be running fine. Got up on plane good idled down good.

Ok, to keep the explaination short. Since the above i have been loosing power on top end. I used to plane out and run at ~4500 RPM. Now i cant even get on plane and the RPM's dont get above 3200.

Per the suggestion of my Dad i checked the compression. Number 1 cylinder was 109 PSI all the others were around the 90 PSI mark. Now, this was in my driveway and i never started the boat to let it warm up before hand. Do i need to check the motor after its been running for a while? If the rings are bad, can someone suggest a place i can get a complete rebuilt for the motor. If I have to replace the rings I'm going to do it all. I'm currently looking for a machine shop.

Also is there anything else that may cause low power and what can i do to test?

Thanks a millon in advance,
