Lower Crank Seal Orientations - 71 Merc 800

Manual states to install both seals with lip toward the outside of the cylinder block. That is how the original seals are installed. Have read elsewhere on there forums to install the inner seal in one orientation and the outer seal in the opposite orientation.

I'm tending to think that Merc did it right when they put this motor together 41 years ago, or did they ?

Hey moody i think you are right, thats the way mine were and i have had 0 problems with water intrusion,I think propshaft seals are opposite and crank seals are installed the same.

I'm going to follow Merc's example (and the manual) in this situation.
