Changing out my gear lube oil and ordered new screws to replace my almost stripped ones. Come to find out the lower screw for my make of engine listed in all the schematics is not the one on my engine. The top drain plug I received is correct but the bottom one is not since its Threaded on the inside. I cannot find this one anywhere since every site lists the one I ordered for my model engine. Anyone know what this one is? Or where to find? Pics included. Motor is Evinrude.. Model E50TSLECC. Thank you!

#10 is your lower drain plug screw, not # 55
You can buy sierra 18-4249 drainscrew that has an allen head to replace it so it doesn't strip as easy in the future.
#55 is shift lever retainer screw not a drain plug.

The bolt you removed probably locks something into place. I would wait for one of our experts to post before you touch anything else. Hopefully you can just put it back in.

Ugh. I sure hope I didn't. I'll have to retake a look at it as soon as I get back home from work tonight . I'm 90% sure it was the very bottom screw though at the base though! I sure hope I didn't screw the pooch on this one 🤦‍♀️ I ordered # 10 that's why I was trying to figure out why it's different. If I did a major screw up I'm hoping I can just put it back in? the threads aren't stripped on it at all.

And make sure to put an o-ring back on it to keep water out and oil in.

Ummm,....that's the screw that holds your shift rod in place. I'm sure someone has told you this at this point. Hopefully it will line up and go back in and you haven't screwed up too bad! There is an o rings that goes on that screw to seal it. But it has nothing to do with gear oil change in the bottom.

try to peek inside with a strong light to line things up or try a 4 inch nail to center parts before trying to scrw the blot back in .

Thanks everyone. I was able to take a look at it in the day light and very carefully screwed it back in. It went in easily with no apparent issues. I'm really hoping I didn't mess things up majorly. Lesson learned that I need to take a triple look at what I'm doing before I start wrenching on things. I'm so disappointed in myself. 🙄If I failed at putting it back properly is it the shifter doesn't move or work correct? I did take a flashlight and look in the hole to make sure everything was lined up and it appeared so.

Don't beat yourself up too bad. It's not uncommon for people to do this on these engines. Look for an OEM shop manual, Find some good youtube videos.

If it shifts into forward, neutral and reverse then everything is OK.
OK thank you. I will give it a try tommorow and hopefully it's fine. I was scared to mess around anymore today until I got more information. The shifter is moving fine, I just haven't started it to try it out with the muffs on. That make me feel better though.

Item #6 is the upper VENT screw on these and may be different than #10.----So fill gear oil from bottom till it comes out the vent.
