Can anyone help me with my mercury 110/9.8 horsepower motor. The serial number is 4083878<br />The problem is I was out boating and started hearing the worst clanking and metal against metal sound. I had this problem looked at and its not the powerhead according to the boat shop. I am pretty sure it is a lower end problem because it kept jumping out of gear when I put it in forward. Finally trying to get in from fishing the clanking was super loud and then even in gear the prop wasn't turning anymore. I took apart the lower end so far and everything looks ok according to schematic. I took off the water pump/impeller and now I'm at the bearing ball on the drive shaft. I can't get them off. I removed the retaining ring, but those **** bearings won't budge. Are they pressed in there? How do I get them off and does it sound like I am heading in the right direction? I ordered a repair manual just yesterday so I should get it about a week from now... Can anyone help me?

Check your driveshaft for wear just under the water pump. It's the highest bearing surface in the gearcase and usually the first to go bad. If that is the case, your motor will make a nice anchor. The shaft is no longer available as far as I know. When they were, they were like $400. Sorry for the bad news.

I am at the bearings right under the water pump and I don't see any abnormal wear on the drive shaft so far. I am hoping that it is something besides the driveshaft because that part is outrageously expensive. How do I get those bearings out under the water pump?
