lower seals help needed

I removed my lower unit and replaced the impeller. now I am attempting to replace the prop seals since I have oil leaking and I am stuck. do I need to remove that carrier that holds the seal to replace? the seals have a metal case so I cant just pry it out. any help is appreciated. thank you

You can leave the LU intact. Just remove the prop and thrust washer on the prop shaft and get to it. Drill a hole in the metal and take a pick, like a SSdental pick, stick it in the hole, or holes if you choose, and pry the outer seal out. Then you can grasp the metal of the inner seal and pull it out. Note they are back to back when reinstalling....one keeps oil IN and the other keeps water OUT. Manual lists Red locktite coating when reinstalling...auto parts stores carry it.
