Guys,
Prior removing lower shift cable I double check the way it was routed. So I put the new one same way. I just got my alpah 1 gen2 manual and on Page 4B-62 90-818177--3 APRIL 2001 (for v6 and V8 picture) the routing is different. Prev owner didn't change anything thus it was done at the factory. Can there be other proper way of routing that cable. The way mine was routed was once it went thru transom it went behind the y pipe and over the steering not around y pipe then over the steering. It was shifting fine too. Can any of you elaborate??

Re: Lower shift cable routing

If you have the cable coming through the transom shield and going between the Y pipe and the transom, no wonder you are replacing the cable so early. That puts to sharp of a bend in the cable.
It needs to be routed as shown in the manual.

Well Don,
Cable was fine and it was shifting fine, I've decided to change it while replacing gimbal bearing, all belows, speedometer tube and gear oil fitting. I've decided to change the cable since I was doing all that work.
