Ok...I'm sure someone will yell it has been posted before, get a manual, or take it to the dealer. 1. I've search all 10 pages that brought up the lower unit search nothing answered my question. 2. I've got a manual, but doesn't answer my question and 3. I don't do over priced dealerships on anything. I know people have to work, but I don't make enough to pay their salary or wages.

So my lower unit acted like it locked up. Drained the oil. The plugs had metal shaving on them...some 1/8 inch in size. shaving in the drained oil. (oil less than a week old) Removed the lower unit the power head would move now. Also the lower unit would spin now as well. So with the findings of the metal shaving. I took apart using the manual the lower unit. Only to find no damaged teeth, clutch dog, bearings. Nothing to indicate where all the metal shavings came from. The housing is fine. I have scoped the housing sleeves and nothing. Looked at ever shaft spline, gear spline, every shim, every bearing and nothing.

The manual states to put in new seals in when putting back together. 100% agree with that. My questions is to all you highly experienced DIY boat mechanics out there. What else besides a seal kit do I need to order for putting this thing back together. All the manual states is the seal kit.

Also one more question on the shifter housing the pin that holds the shifter in place has a bearing ball and spring in their. What holds the bearing ball into place in the sleeve of the housing?

Thanks in advance

While in 50 ft of water. No brush or trash floating around. Motor made a loud thud/bang. Then the motor start struggling. Then shut down complete. It would not turn over at all by starter motor or hand. Came home drained lower unit found metal in oil some pieces up to 1/8 inch in size. Removed lower unit. Motor now will turn. Lower unit will turn. Tore apart to find the issue. Can't find nothing. No missing teeth, no damaged bearings, no scared housing. I have no clue where the metal shavings come from. Their is some scare metal in the clutch dog, bit looks normal for putting in gear. Nothing I would consider abnormal
