Lower unit oil question

I have just changed the oil in my yamaha 225 and the oil never came out of the top hole like it was supposed to. I've put like twice as much as it is supposed to hold back in. Any suggestions?

depending on the 225 depends on how much oil it holds.
with the top(vent) plug out fill from the bottom until it runs out of the vent hole.
install the vent plug then remove your oil pump and install the drain plug.
always carefully inspect the drain and vent gaskets and replace as needed.
