Lower Unit Oil

Hi, new to the board. Just completed the 10 hour breakin on my new 150HP carbed Yamaha. Drained the lower unit gear oil per the manual (10 hour service) and was supprised to see how dirty it was and the amount of metal filings on the magnetic plug. Is this normal?

if your shifting is sharp then what you are seeing is very normal. its important your shifting be in or out, no grinding. most of what you see is the dog teeth and the gear teeth wearing in.
