I need some machanical know how..
I NEED TO REMOVE THE BEARING HOUSING on a 1979 Johnson 200txl79a. There is an oil leak and it won't hold pressure. So I want to replace the driveshaft o-ring # 5 on diagram (part #0314728) and driveshaft oil retainer's #7 on diagram (part #0321453).

The 4 bolts came out easy but the housing seems to be frozen. Prying it out may damage lower unit. Thanking U in advance..!!

Re: Lower Unit problem

That housing is simply a tight fit. Use two large screwdrivers, one on each side to wobble it up and out of the gearcase.

Soak it overnight with some PB Blaster and give it some light taps with a hammer...

Re: Lower Unit problem

It is quite common that the bearing housing will not come out. I usually have to apply slow but considerable heat to the casing to make it expand before the housing will come free. Best done by a professional.
