I am in the process of installing new seals in the lower unit of my 25936. The motor has been in our family since new. I am getting water intrusion I believe through the seal below the water pump. but the whole unit will get new seals. I replaced the fill and vent plug seals a couple of times to no effect. My question is the bronze bushing under the seal beneath the water pump seems to have spun in the recess. It lifted right out with my finger after I removed the seal. Is this normal ? I would think that it would be driven into the bore. Secondly the reverse gear has a bushing too this bushing also slides right out of the reverse gear. While there has been water intrusion there is no sign of corrosion. The roller and ball bearings are smooth as well as shaft and shift mechanisms are clean. Any help would be appreciated.
