I recently changed the gear lube in the lower unit of my 1994 force 120 hp outboard engine. Keep in mind i did not change the seals for the drain and fill screws because i did not know i needed to and the old ones were worn but i thought they would work. The oil that came out looked good. Well...I took the boat out for several hours and bottomed out in a area that i did not know quickly went shallow. i believe i only hit mud and nothing hard but my aluminum propeller did have some knicks on it. When i got home i inspected the lower unit and found milky colored oil comming from the drain plug. I drained the lower unit and every bit of it was very milkey colored. I went to the boat shop and they sold me some gaskets to put on the drain and fill screws. I filled the lower unit with gear lube flushing it clean and applying the gaskets afterwards. My question is: I know there are seals behind the propeller that keep water from comming in, could this be where the water came in after i hit something or could that much water come in the vent and drain screws when they did not have good gaskets? If the water is comming in at the seals behind the propeller how hard are they to change and how do i do it?
