I recently purchased a 1999 triton tr-21 w/ mercury 225 efi engine. Boat ran well on test drive and ran fine first trip out. coming in on second outing heard a pinging noise shut it done and it was clattering in idle. pulled the gear oil screw and nothing but water and metal shavings. Pulled lower unit and replaced with aftermarket unit. Everything slid in place and thought I would be good. Put it the water yesterday. Cranked fine, sounded fine. put it forward and idled out. when i gave it gas it would rev up to about 2500 rpm max but had no propulsion to count. Any suggestions ? im a little puzzled.

Start with a compression test.----Post your numbers.----Follow that with a spark check.----Spark must jump a gap of 3/8" on all leads.----This does sound like the BOAT theory ( bring on another thousand ) is coming to my mind.----Perhaps you now understand why this was for sale.-----Lots of wonderful deals these days.
