on a pontoon boat I need to lower outboard as is not a long shaft, can I use a hi jacker fixed jacking plate and reverse it or is there something else I can use to lower a 50 hp mercury outboard?

thanks a lot!

the problem with lowering a short shaft for a long shaft transon, is the back wash, when slowing, swamping the motor. not really recommended. i have the opposite problem, long shaft motor on short transom, getting raise this weekend.

I didn't know there were two types of transoms. I'm having a similiar problem on the toon I picked up recently. The motor has to be tilted all the way down (past vertical) to get enough water. This means poor performance. Without changing the motor, what options do I have?

Pontoons almost always require a long (20 inch) shaft motor. You can't lower a short shaft motor for the simple reason the powerhead will be too close to the water and will be swamped by following waves or when suddenly slowing down.

Its best to start your own thread gets confusing for all involved.
It appears your motor is close to working right. Is it a long shaft? Is the prop in excellent condition?Perhaps the motor has holes in the bracket to adjust the height. If there is no other choice a stainless prop or a prop with some cup might help but the best solution is the correct shaft length.
