Lowrance LMS-525c df won't power up

We got this unit along with the purchase of an 'old' Whaler Montauk 17. This multi-function unit (gps, fathometer, chart plotter, etc.) was working fine and has for more than a year. And then it refused to power up. We have 12v on two pins of the connector at the unit so that's probably not it...Lowrance says they won't service anything over 5 years old, and they know by the serial number leaving the factory (unless you can prove you bought it new less than 5 years ago) ...anybody got any ideas, other than tossing it to the curb?

Even though nobody replied, maybe someone else will be helped by my findings...finally an epiphany tonight...when I found power in the plug at the back of the unit, I stopped looking at power issues...mistake...I needed to have found power on two pins in the same plug as there are feeds for both the power to the head and the power to the NMEA network... I jumped a quick external wire to test the theory and the unit fired right up. Next task, run a new dedicated power line from the battery switch to the units power leads through the wiring chase...beats replacing this unit...

Scrolling through my old posts looking for something else...maybe this will help someone else, the other very important thing I learned about this unit is that the gps stays on even when the unit is off. With it wired direct to the battery, it was drawing just a trickle all the time, and if it was too long between boat uses, killing the battery. Upgrading to a proper battery switch on the hot side made it so we could kill ALL power feed to the boat, problem solved.

capezig, there are lots of reasons some posts don't draw much if any responses. Usually folks read them but have no idea anything about specific electronic gear. So rather then make a useless post, they elect to not leave anything in hopes somebody else will help out. So it isn't you or your thread but more of nobody knew anything about that problem...

A lot of times I will go back and bump my own thread a time two to make sure the right guys see it. Sometimes there is so much traffic they don't see it the first time down the page.
