lube question

From reviewing different post - I understand my '96 3.0 volvo/penta sx outdrive has a grease fitting on the starboard side that lubes the gimbal bearing? Can I put the same kind of grease there as I put in my trailer wheel bearings. Are there any grease fittings that can help the outdrive pivot easier(left/right)? <br /><br />Thanks Again

I don't do Volvos, So I'm not Sure on Where your fitting are.....<br /> <br />A Manual will give you All that Info.....<br /><br />As Far As,

Can I put the same kind of grease there as I put in my trailer wheel bearings.

Any Excess will fall into the bellows.....<br />I give mine about 10 pumps, Everytime I Service the boat...........

texsun, waterproof wheel bearing grease is fine, the Volvo Manual for my SX drive recommends that the drive is removed once a season to lubricate the bearing. It recommends this so you can see when all the old grease is out of the bearing. It also states that each season the splines should be lubricated with moly grease and the two o rings on the shaft with engine oil. It states failure to do this each season will cause damage true or not thats what it says. <br /><br />Regards<br /><br />Chris

Re- Outdrive piviot easier the manual recommends lubricating the power steering shaft every 20hrs with a waterproof grease not wheel bearing grease but one for steering rams.<br /><br />Other than that there are no other grease points that I know of.<br /><br />Regards<br /><br />Chris

Mercury has a Gimbal And U-joint grease for this application. The gimbal bearing is identical on the Merc and OMC drives.
