Re: LubeDude, GTA update please.

chief 101
Ok I have been keeping track of my mileage. Started out at 13 miles per gallon, ouch. With 2 oz of acetone per 10 gallons fuel I get 14 miles to the gal. With 4 oz acetone per 10 gallon fuel I get 15 miles per gallon. But the biggest diff is that it starts better in the mornings with the acetone in the fuel. I am thinking of increasing to 6 oz to 10 gallon. So for me it works and its only $20.00 a gallon. Now to find out why I lost so much gas mileage from the last time I check it!

rwise, that's very interesting. Though I have not tried the acetone in the gas, I do always have acetone around the shop so now is a good time to try. Thanks. Chief ;)

rwise, I checked in with my friends that I first sent the GTA stuff to for testing. They ended up using acetone with similar results as you have seen. This morn I put 8 oz in both 20 gallon tanks in my pickup. Hope I get the same results, since I use about $600 in fuel a month could see a decent savings. Chief ;)

Good luck with it, keep good records, and let us know what you find. I'm going to 6 oz per 10 gallons today, and I'll see what that looks like next week!

Re: LubeDude, GTA update please.

Well I did go to 6oz of acetone per 10 gallons regular unleaded (87 oct), gas mileage fell to about 11 miles to the gallon, power went up. So I dropped back to 4 per 10 and ran it that way until I trew the timing chain out and am rebuilding the engine now as it had many oil leaks. I did have to change the fuel pump, but I think it was an OEM part so I do not think the acetone caused the failure.

As to the GTA, I am still using it in my Merc 150 and the RX/7.

When I did all the work on the engine this early spring and took the intake system apart I did find the GTA in the system around the reeds and inside the carb. Not a problem that I could tell, but I could tell it was there as it was sticky.

I've been using the 40z of acetone per 10 gallons in my old pickemup and it not only does about 10% better on the mileage but low end towing power is a little better. Small diferences and with $7 for a gallon af acetone I'm not sure it's worth it. I have half a gallon of the GTA and I use it once in a while instead of the acetone. My only comment is that the engine seems to idle a little smoother. The engine has over 300k on it so I'm not sure if any of this data is valid or fair when dealing with newer vehicles. Chief

Ok, I'm game. I just filled the tank on my E150 today. 90$ please. I just read the link posted by Chief. It has a graph that shows that 3 oz, per 10 gal of gas, gave the best mileage gain, all things being equal. (Chief, if you look at that graph, 10 oz/10 gal, gives you a loss)

I've consistantly gotten 14.5 mpg + or - a few tenths, so it should be pretty easy to track any noticeable gain. I'll keep y'all posted. I should have to fill up again by the end of next week.

4 oz. per 10 gal. maybe a little less and I may have gotten a little better than 1mpg at city driving. On the hiway I don't think there is a diference. 13 mpg city, 17mpg hiway. Average 14mpg. There's no pattern to my driving so the figuring is real dubious. I do alot of towing and that's where the diference shows. Chief

Boomyal, start at 2 oz per 10 gallons, track the resaults then go to 3 oz per 10 then to 4, it will vary from engine to engine where you get the best results. Mine was at 4 oz per 10 gal. yours could be at 2! good luck and post those results,,,

CarTalk (Click & Clack) say acetone does no good and can cause damage to your engine!

Re: LubeDude, GTA update please.

Here are the results of my acetone additive back on 4/28. I had added 3 oz/10 gal. I just filled up with 30 gallons of gas. The best I could tell my driving was the usual mix of freeway and surface streets.

I calculated out at a 1.5 mpg increase. Even at 1.5 mpg increase, it is probably a wash considering the cost of the acetone. I will still give it another go however. This time I will back it off to 2 oz/10 gal. and see what happens.

I wonder how acetone is as a deposit cleaner?
