Re: Lucas Oil additive ? Good or Bad?

There used to be a brand called slick 50. My uncle was hired to video tape a man add this to his oil, then drive 50 miles into the desert in August, drain his oil and drive back with the oil plug and filter sitting on the dash. Engine ran good if a bit noisy from the lifters.
How many years have we run engines before they invented these miracle fluids? Although they may help, how do we know how much? There are some cleaners that will help if needed with things like consumption and pressure.
As far as oils that claim they "stabilize" oil during the winter. I don't get that. That is what the W is for in the weight. 10W40 means WINTER. At least that is what they told me in a 10 hour lubrication class I took in College.
Unless you have a problem to start with, how do you know if the addative has helped your engine? I still say regular service with factory rfecommended oil is the best. I have heard good things about Royal Purple though.
Good luck with your decision.

I broke in with non-synthectic, in fact I have not changed that yet. I was waiting till spring and start with fresh oil.
