Is the recoil missing? Do you have electric start? There is a possibility that the recoil for a 50D will fit. I will need to call the factory to confirm. If it does fit, you would order:
3C8050902MRECOIL STARTER ***'Y$308.65
As for upgrading the HP, forget it; The 70 uses a different block, crank, and pistons. If you had a crank set and pistons, you might re-bore the block, but it would be cost prohibitive.

This is a rare engine,i was told alaska got a bunch of them and maine got a few....my original engine was recoil start and was stolen....a few months later i saw one listed in local paper for sale thinking it was mine, but wasnt...i i purchased it as i needed a replacement.
this one is same engine as my original m50c but was electric start but had a 60 cowling on it and there is a place for recoil handle to seat.
I believe this block is the same as the 70 as it is same size shape etc.
Thanks

So, do you want me to check on the 50D recoil for you?
The 50C was cool because, with only 2 cylinders, it had less rotating mass than the 3-cylinder that replaced it... so it had great throttle response.
The very rare 45 and 50C were about the same, but the bigger motors had completely different cranks and pistons.

I verified with Tohatsu America that the 50C came only with electric start -- no recoil start was offered.
