I hope the price of beef comes down, $16.99 for a pound of tenderloin is just crazy. I like beef but mostly I buy pork or chicken.

For those of you that are raising beef, here is a good test for Mad Cow:
How to Identify the Crazy Cow

After seeing the "Good" cow, click on BUT to help identify the Mad Cow.

Been around for a while but still a good one. :D

Let's put this in perspective.

Great Britains MC outbreak involved 200,000 cows.

150 people died.

The US, so far, has one cow.

We lose over 300 people every year to the flu.

We have lost 500 to the Iraq confict. That's with REAL bullets and explosives.

Gee whiz we're a bunch of panicky weenies.

I think I'm going to have fillet mignon for New Years Eve dinner.

The spinal cord and brains are commonly ground up and turned into hot dogs, bologne or anything with "meat by products" (human dog food).
So I would suggest to steer clear of that crap.
I would also not eat beef from fast food joints. Whether they grind up the brains and spinal cords for their patties I dunno, but they grind up and put everything else in there.

rolmops - I think you spelled it right!!
Even the newspapers have been spelling it several different ways. (Kreutzfeldt-Jacob)

moderator1 - "mad cow-combined" would look something like hamburger. :D
ok, I know, a juvenile farm implement joke :p

John and Jackie - luv it, but did you make that tape on my property?

So what's left to eat? rocks?

OMC - We had whole beef tenderloins on sale about a month ago, small-about 3 pounds, $2.69 a pound. Maybe not the best pedigree, but tender, and a whole lot better than the stuff they try to sell us as steaks.

Re: Mad cow disease in Washington state?

Cattleman friend of mine told me the price of calves has dropped dramatically - from about $1.00 per pound to about $0.40 per pound! Man, that has to hurt the bottom line. But if prices drop, traditionally Americans will eat more beef - then when the prices go up, people will be used to the higher prices???? COuld be a silver lining to this cloud for the American people and the cattle farmers in the long run. Trying to find a bright side, anyway.
