Excellent progress:D

A coat in the a.m. and one in the p.m. would be totally fine I'd think. The first would still be cureing so the second would just cure right along with it. A chemical bond is better than a mechanical bond anywhoo. I'm with Glen though, I've only done one coat.

Yikes, the admiral would have my @#$ in a sling if I took her egg beater out to the shop, although I bet it worked good.:p

Hi Mag, I don't think a second coat of Gluvit is necessary. I think the first coat is your best (and only?) shot to get sufficient Gluvit into all the cracks and crevices. By the time you add a second coat, the first will probably have lost its vicosity and will prevent a second application from penetrating any further. It probably wouldn't hurt anything though. - Grandad

Nah - The blender works better and has a nice pour spout. And you can make margaritas between epoxy batches too.

Hopefully I am not boring everybody with all the pics and detail, I just want to do a how to, or at least a how I did it:rolleyes:!!!
Transom, previously I had cut it, so I split it and sanded
100_0987.jpg

Put a coat of epoxy on each side that was going to mate up on reassembly and then screwed it together with stainless screws
100_0994.jpg

100_0989.jpg

Stainless square drive 1 1/4" screws
100_0991.jpg

Let it dry overnight, and coated one side this morning, slow progress but progress none the less
100_0992.jpg

I will flip it at lunch and coat the other side!!
Till then

This may sound like a stupid question.
Does the gluvit have to go inside and outside the hull? Or is it just applied to the inside?
BTW, I think you are doing some great work here.

Making great progress. The transom is where I'd suggest multiple coats of epoxy.

NICE shop!

edit: I think gluvit on the inside for a couple reasons. Wicks better into most of the cracks and gets covered up anyway. I've seen it done on the outside but you'd want to feather it all out before painting.

Re: Magnumdekes 1976 22' Starcraft Islander

Been busy at work, gonna be 60+ this week, not a lot of progress. I did find time to do some scrounging around at the scrap yard yesterday, SCORE, 1 5'x6' 1/4" aluminum sheet and a 5'x4' sheet!!!!!!!!!!!! New condition, Can you say Swim platform, outboard mount with floatation pod!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, Spent some down time today getting a blueprint together, should have enough material, oh ya also got a piece of 3/8" 2'x2'. Gonna steal from weldzilla for basic outline. Should be mint!
QUESTION, I need to know how much a Jonnyrude crossflow or looper 150 or 175 weigh, will help with my floatation pod calculations.
Thanks. Rick

Re: Magnumdekes 1976 22' Starcraft Islander

Thanks Mark, great reference!!!! Means I am a little light on floatation, close but not quite. Kinda confused on how to figure it, I am going with the floatation foam theory of 60lbs per cubic foot, except no foam just dead air and of course I have to subtract for weight of bracket. Anyone got a more accurate formula, I am not a math genius, LOL. Just trying to break even or slightly under on the bracket and motor as far as buoyancy. Using the 60lbs theory I am around 540lbs of buoyancy, - bracket @ a guestimated 150 lbs, and then a looper 150 @ 370 lbs, would end up at 520 lbs of weight. almost even if I am even close on my theory, kicker motor gonna blow it up into a negative situation! All right, am I close in theory or way off the mark???
